Port Oostende is an industrial port whose mission is: creating economic growth that generates sustainable employment. The associated vision is to excel in niche growth markets with waterbound activities.

Port Oostende focuses on continuity, growth and employment based on five pillars: Blue Economy, Lift-on Lift-off, Bulk & Project Cargo, Roll-on Roll-off & Cruises, Circular Industry and the Fishing Industry. These sectors will be further developed with two principles in mind: prioritizing safety, health and the environment and, secondly, supporting innovation and development.

The development and maintenance of offshore wind farms is one of the most important parts of the blue economy. Port Oostende is the offshore wind hub for the southern part of the North Sea. It is the aim of Port Oostende to excel in blue growth by offering dedicated port facilities, efficient infrastructure, support in research and innovation and an extended business network to both national and international companies.

Offshore installation and maintenance

REBO is a unique terminal with direct access to open sea and is located along one of the busiest sea routes and is the perfect terminal for: handling, lifting, storage, assembling and transportation of heavy weight components. The 15 hectares ready-to-use area is available for: project cargo, offshore construction, decommissioning offshore wind turbines and heavy weight structures.

The REBO heavy weight terminal is known as the base of operations for the construction of various wind farms at sea. Wind turbine components are brought to the terminal from all over the world, assembled and then they leave for installation at sea.

The 399 wind turbines, installed in the Belgian part of the North Sea, are continuously monitored and maintained. A cluster of around seventy companies carries out these works. This cluster is located up and around the REBO heavy weight terminal.

Our latest achievements

Elia Offshore Service Center

Elia and Port Oostende have signed a concession agreement for the construction of an offshore service center. The agreement is a first step in the realization of a new multi-purpose building in the heart of Port Oostende. The location on the quay is ideal for interventions at sea.

Elia will build a lot of infrastructure at sea in the coming decade; such as the Princess Elisabeth Island and submarine interconnectors with the United Kingdom (Nautilus) and Denmark (TritonLink). To build and maintain that infrastructure, an onshore base is needed.

Elia consciously chooses Port Oostende, which is an important hub for offshore wind. The Belgian wind farms, offshore suppliers and many maritime authorities and administrations have offices there. Many offshore R&D companies also have their home base in Port Oostende.

World's first energy island

Port Oostende contributes to building energy island

Elia Group’s Princess Elisabeth Island is the world’s first energy island. It is an extension of the electricity grid in the North Sea; an electricity hub connecting offshore wind farms to the mainland and establishing new connections with foreign countries.

Elia Group awarded the tender for the construction of the Princess Elisabeth Island to TM Edison, the temporary partnership between 2 partners Jan De Nul and DEME. TM Edison chose Port Ostend as its home base for this mega-project. Project engineering and logistics moved into the building of Stapelhuis Entrepot from early November 2023.

In addition, a jetty will be provided in Port Oostende for the crew transfer vessels that will bring the technical and logistics personnel to the energy island daily.

REBO warehouse

REBO nv invested in this new warehouse with a surface area of ​​6 900 m² to guarantee the further rollout of its strategy. Since the acquisition in October 2019, the offshore wind terminal has been repositioned into a multi purpose heavy load terminal. This investment fits in with the vision that Port Oostende and its subsidiaries should actively participate in the maritime logistics chain.

REBO operates this warehouse under its own management. This guarantees that modern logistics and the greater interest, in particular maximum rotation of goods versus mere storage and optimal planning in the context of, for example, the energy transition, can be pursued.
